Satellite and HAps for ermeRgency and Public Safety communications

Disasters are often combined with the destruction of the local telecommunication infrastructure,
causing severe problems to the rescue operations. In these cases there is a need to guarantee
communication services and to provide a backhaul connection to the intact network infrastructure.
Satellite terminals and HAPs can be the only solution, as they can be quickly and easily deployed.
Satellite- or HAP-based systems could be also used for public safety communications and not only in emergency cases.
The SHARPS group address technical and political issues associated with the use of HAPs and satellites in emergency and public safety communications.
